Describe an important letter you wrote.

     You should say

     who you wrote to ①

     when you wrote it ②

     what you wrote ③

and explain why you wrote that letter ④

①②Many years ago i once wrote a love letter to a girl - a?Pisces girl. I remember I sent her favorite orchids with my handwritten love letter attached.

③She became my girlfriend not too long after she received my letter. I guess she really liked the way how the letter was written. It was more of poetry than prose. I poured all my love and affection like sweet real orange juice to a shiny glass. She decided to have the love letter read by all her dorm mates it was passed from one hand to another and she was so proud of it and she even framed it like it were the picture of a saint. NOS

④Why I wrote this letter? It's a love letter, surely because I loved her. I can explain a bit why I handwrote it. Sometimes a thoughtful handwritten letter is just what a girl needed, and it is sometimes better then an email. I just think it takes more effort to sit down to write and then send it through regular mail. That makes it more special. For a girl, it's satisfying to hold a letter written by a boy's hand, and it's lovely that the boy took the time and care to do so.

Nowadays, people tend to write letter by computers, there was a time, not so long ago, when letter writing was a real craft.

     Relaxation:

Here is a loveletter from a boy to a girl.... However, the girl's father does not like him and wants them to stop their relationship...and so.... the boy wrote this letter to the girl....... He knows that the girl's father will definitely read this letter:

     下面这封信是一个男孩写给一个女孩的信,由于女孩的父亲不同意两人交往,而且会拆看两人的信件。男孩把信写成这个样子。

1 The great love that I have for you

2 is gone, and I find my dislike for you

3 grows every day. When I see you,

     4 I do not even like your face;

5 the one thing that I want to do is to

6 look at other girls. I never wanted to

7 marry you. Our last conversation

8 was very boring and has not

9 made me look forward to seeing you again.

10 You think only of yourself.

11 If we were married, I know that I would find

12 life very difficult, and I would have no

13 pleasure in living with you. I have a heart

14 to give, but it is not something that

15 I want to give to you. No one is more

16 foolish and selfish than you, and you are not

17 able to care for me and help me.

18 I sincerely want you to understand that

19 I speak the truth. You will do me a favor

20 if you think this is the end. Do not try

21 to answer this. Your letters are full of

22 things that do not interest me. You have no

23 true love for me. Good-bye! Believe me,

24 I do not care for you. Please do not think that

25 I am still your boyfriend.

So bad!! However, before handing over the letter to the girl....the boy told the girl to "READ BETWEEN THE LINES", meaning-only to read .9.11.13 (Odd Numbers.) So.. please try reading it again! It's so smart & sweet.... It is betterto laugh about your problems than to cry about them.

If you wanna talk about playground legends, the conversation begins right there. Demetrius "Hook" Mitchell is the legend. You can hear all the stories in the world, but you'll never believe it until you see it. He's done inhuman stuff, unreal stuff.

Hook was by far the best player to come out of Oakland. Demetrius Hook Mitchell is the Bay's most notorious legend. Every cat with at least minimal knowledge of playground ball has a Hook Mitchell story. The tales of his leaping ability are common place. Jumping over cars, bikes and people wasn't no thing to Hook. Before his descent into narcotics hell, Hook was nothing but heavenly. If he'd just kept his head straight, he'd be in the league right now, dominating.

Unfortunately, Hook lives in a prison cell now and in other folks' memories.

Several NBA stars who also grew up in Oakland, including Gary Payton, Jason Kidd, Antonio Davis, Drew Gooden, and Brian Shaw, all of whom played with Mitchell on the streets, and were astonished by his skills, but were unable to help him avoid his sorry fate. They describe his unstable home life and the longing for community that drove him to the streets. Mitchell himself is shown playing prison league games, and is surprisingly still able to play above the rim.

His story, like others, was written on courts between the West and East Bay.

and explain why this was such an unforgettable trip. ?

(7) -? A long journey

One journey I went on that was very long indeed was my trip around Europe last summer, travelling by train.

I went for a whole month, going all around Europe from my home country of England east until I got to Eastern Europe, and then back in a loop to Italy. I went so I could see the rich history and culture of the continent, which was practically on my doorstep. I felt it was high time I embarked on a long trip to experience some more of the world and its people.

Travelling by train I kept myself occupied by looking out of the window at the landscapes as they flashed by. The countryside was mostly fields, but once I got to the Alps then it became beautiful. There were towering cliffs of rocks with fast-flowing rivers cutting between valley walls. I could even see a castle on one of the hillsides. Each city I visited brought a new style of architecture and type of person on the street. I saw medieval cottages, baroque cathedrals and shabby, modern apartment blocks. The landscape varied with each country I came to.

I’ll never forget this trip because it was the first time I was travelling without a home base. I went with a good friend and we spent a lot of time together. We had memorable conversations on the long train journeys about live, society, religion... all very deep stuff. I also had the chance to see some of the world’s most famous sights like the Eiffel Tower and the Dom cathedral in Cologne. It was fascinating waking up on a moving train knowing that the next stop I got off at was going to present me with a whole new country with many surprises. It was a unique experience.?

(6) - An item of clothing

OK, let me talk about the national costume of Japan:Kimono

① Kimono are T-shaped, straight-lined robes that fall to the ankle, with collars and wide, full-length sleeves. There are different types of kimono for different occasions and seasons, including those worn by men.

②?Kimono can be found in many places in Japan but people have to pay through the nose as they cost an arm and a leg. A decent silk kimono will set you back the best part of a million yen.?

③ Kimono are a much less common sight these days and are usually only seen worn by older people or on special occasions. A few older women and even fewer men still wear kimono on a daily basis. I wear kimono when I was in Japan most often at weddings, tea ceremonies, and other very special or very formal occasions.

④ Why wear Kimono? It's very rich---you experience a lot of culture and you get such a world of thoughts that go with it. It's not just the feeling that you get from wearing kimono, but the natsukashi (nostalgic). Also, it's always fun to dress up, and you get different reactions from people. The long and the?short, it's fun, fashionable and infused with tradition. What better reasons could there be

(5) - An Ideal Home

① Speaking of the ideal home that?I would like to live in... Err... It must be in suburban area, far away from the noise, hustle & bustle of the outside world.

② Flat, Terraced, Detached or Semi-detached, whatever type of house it would be as I don't really care. It must be spacious & bright, this is what I focus on. I hate being in a dark cramped room with a low ceiling, I will be hyperventilating.

③ I would love to decorate my house lovingly, as well as casual. I'd like to put lots of posters into a picture frame to hang on a wall, and I'd also like to put some hooks up and lay musical instruments across the hooks.

④ It'd be quiet, comfortable and private, like a cozy heaven. The blue walls make me think of the calming vast seas that relax me. The base boards and shutters are white which remind me of the pure white clouds in the sky. The white in my room helps me to have pure and clean thoughts. Soft muted colours of the walls and bright colors of the accents make me feel creative and safe. To live in such an ideal house, I feel totally relaxed.

(4) - Sth that helped?U learn another language

① The thing that helps me learn another language is an Electronic English-Chinese Dictionary. This gadget was given by my granny on my 18th birthday. It’s handy, glossy, and super thin.

② It has a PDA style interface, where I could write an unknown character, then have the dictionary magically tell me what it was.

③ Why learn English? English is not only the most useful language in the world but also one of the easiest languages to learn and to use. And of course, if you want a good job, get out of the armchair and start learning English now! If you already have a good job, start learning before you lose it!

④ The dictionary includes not only definitions, but plenty of usage examples and sentences. It contains great idiomatic and colloquial phrases, both for US and UK English --?in addition to the more "standardly" used meanings. Also, the word search history list makes it very easy to jump back to a word you looked up earlier, making it a very valuable study tool.

I personally think my electronic dictionary is the single best investment I've made in my own English.

① I can still remember the day I saw the Statue of Liberty when I was in New York 3 years ago.

③ The Statue of Liberty was a gift of friendship from France to United States. It is indeed a giant figure, almost 93 meters tall, one of the tallest statues ever built. Lady Liberty's right hand holds a torch that is a symbol of liberty and her left hand clutches a stone tablet.

④?I thought the Statue of Liberty was waving to me. I was totally shocked, how breathtaking! I think for many it symbolized freedom and democracy. But what impressed me most was the stone tablet close to her chest (heart). The tablet actually stands for a book, and that book represents the power of knowledge. Knowledge is indeed power, and the power is potent to change and reform society. I can sense how vital it is for a nation to instill the knowledge to the hearts of the people.

     1. What are the different ways people get news?

Mass media is the most important channel through which we get the news. Newspapers, TV, Radio and magazines. Nowadays, Internet offers us a much easier access to the information. Sometimes our friends like to talk about daily events, which provides another way for us to get news.

     2. What types of news do you like

TV news, Radio News, Internet News.......

I prefer TV news to the radio news. I can get a better understanding of the news on TV because I can see the vivid pictures and images. In addition, I feel more convinced of the news through watching some TV interviews.

Local, Entertainment, Finance, Sports, Politics...

I prefer local news. because it relates to my day to day stuff. To see if there are any crimes in my area I need to be aware of, to know what the weather will be like, & to see if there's any good show in town.

I like international news because I like to keep up-to-date about what's going on in the world in case I'm going on vacation, or need to do business abroad. I also like it because it teaches me about other cultures and that way learn a lot about human psychology.

     3. Do you think children like (= are interested in) the news? (Why?/Why not?)

No I don't think they are interested because it is soo depressing and kids look for humour in TV also they would be too young to understand what was going on.

There could be an announcement on the News about a Nuclear Bomb being on its way here and a lot of people would still?stay , they are like: "Oooh, turn it over....... Its all doom and gloom on the news." (doom and gloom: A deeply pessimistic outlook or feeling.?

     4. Are old people and young people interested in the same (kinds of) news? (Why?/Why not?)

If they aren't, they should be. A young person can learn so much from a senior, and a senior can learn a lot from a young person also. But on average, I would say kids like stuff about sports music and entertainment more than seniors do.

It really depends on the individual and not their age.? For example: I know young people who are very interested in global events and some elderly interested in celebrity watching, and vice-versa. It is individual preference.?

     5. How does the news affect people?

News will affect people's expectations about the future. They will rearrange and adapt their plans to the changes they get from the news. For instance, a large number of people keep an eye on what's going on in the stock market..........

News influences people by only reporting certain things and leaving out parts that could matter. One sided news or journalism isn't news but propaganda in my opinion. It's like the good old saying LeLe always mentioned: Some people would rather believe the lies of Satan than the truth of God.

?Describe a traditional(happy) event that you attended.

     You should say:

     what this event is

     when it happens

who participates in this event and what they do

and explain how you feel about this event. ?

The traditional event which impresses me most is the Chinese traditional wedding.

The red letter date will be picked by the groom's parents. Both the bride and the groom's house will be decorated in red in advance.

The groom's family will send out a precession of servants, entertainers and a carriage which is carried by four servants to the bride's family to bring the bride back. The bride and the groom will worship the heaven and the earth, the groom's ancestors and they will also serve tea to all their superiors in the family. After the meal, the new couple will return to the bridal room and some naughty friends may tag-along and play tricks on the groom. Then, the couple will finally be left with themselves and the groom can take off the red cloth that covers the bride's face. You know in the ancient times, a man may probably marry a woman that he had never met before, that is to say, the first time to see the wife's face was in their bed, which was really exciting.

That's why I found the traditional wedding so interesting. Now more and more young people choose to have a traditional wedding, which means there is a growing trend towards the traditional culture. That's quite delightful.

Part3: Do you know of any differences between weddings in China and those in the West?

     Wedding ceremony

     Groom(新郎) Best man (伴郎)? Groomsmen(男傧相)

Bride (新娘) Maid of honor(伴娘) Bridesmaid(女傧相)

     Flower girl(花童)? Ring bearer(戒童)

     Minister(神父)

     Usher (引宾员)?

① Bride wears white gown & white veil (stands for purity). The bride should also have:

     something new

     something old

     something borrowed

     something blue

同时,新娘穿戴的衣物中必须包括有新的、旧的、借来的和蓝色的四种东西(something new,something old,something borrowed and something blue)。

     Something Borrowed

     Something Blue

② With the <Wedding March>, the bride's father leads her to the altar.

③ Music stops… Minister will ask: Who gives this woman to be married to this man?

Father: My wife and I do. (Then the bride is given away to the groom.)

Wedding Vows: I (name), choose you (name) to be my (husband/wife), to respect you in your successes and in your failures, to care for you in sickness and in health, to nurture you, and to grow with you throughout the seasons of life. ?

A: This ring is a token of my love. I marry you with this ring, with all that I have and all that I am.

B: I will forever wear this ring as a sign of my commitment and the desire of my heart.

⑥ Throwing rice at the bride and groom as they leave the wedding.

     Wedding celebration:

They cut the wedding cake and feed each other a bite.

The bride throws her bouquet of flowers up in the air, the girl to catches the flower will be the next one to get married.

The groom throws his new wife's garter belt up in the air, the boy to catches the belt will be the next one to get married.

Two Catchers Meet: The catcher of the flowers and the catcher of the garter belt meet together. The boy then puts the garter belt on the girl's leg slowly. The higher up the leg, the better.

Tap your glass: Tapping your drinking glass with a knife or fork makes the bride and groom kiss. Do this often if you’d like to see the bride gets embarrassed.
