　 我是08年8月份到美国的，会计+金融双专业。今年5月份要本科毕业了。

　来美国前从国内转了22学分到asu从大二读起，09年9月份(大三上学期吧）开始申请四大实习。两年来四大中除了kpmg其他三家都面试过。这是我第一 次成功拿到一个四大的internship offer。下面是详细过程，有兴趣进四大的学弟学妹可以参考一下。

　 补充：以下我说的每一个人，我每次见面之后都发过一个email thank you note. 不用太长，3句话就够。nice to meet you ….blah blah blah i will keep you posted.

　 第一次面试：pricewaterhousecoopers, phoenix office, tax internship

　 结果：没有拿到internship, 拿到了一个pwc 的externship1。

　 当时个人背景：零工作经验（刚拿到on-campus tutor的工作offer还没有开始正式上班呢）。gpa 4.0。

　在中国学生会管财务（treasurer）。

　 详细过程：

　 每年四大都会在asu招下一年的暑假实习生，简历投递截止日期大概是9月20多号的样子。我09年9月份在sundevil careerlink2上面申请了pwc一家公司（因为我懒得写cover letter, pwc是四大里面唯一一家只要求递resume不需要cover letter的哈哈）。

　 一般来说四大的internship都喜欢招大四的学生，因为一个大四的学生在毕业那年暑假给他们做了实习，接着去读一年研究生，四大只需要等这个学生一年就可以让他开始full time, 人才流失的risk比较小。

　四大的full time一般只面向会计研究生招聘，因为在美国想要拿到cpa注册会计师执照需要150个大学学分，意思就是你要研究生毕业才可以拿到cpa。

　偶尔，大二和大三的学生会被考虑招入实习，而我就是这幸运的一员。

　 在sundevil careerlink上投了工作之后必须自己留意面试的sign-up date。即使你被邀请去面试，公司并不是每次都会发邮件提醒你。我有朋友们就曾经因为忘记去sign up interview而与四大失之交臂。这一次，我很神奇地被选中了pwc的summer 2010 tax internship校园第一轮面试，一共有9个人竞争1个岗位。

　 面试大概是10月的第2个星期。

　校园面试的前一天pwc邀请了所有申请的人去tempe marketplace墨西哥餐厅maria maria吃饭。一共有30多个学生吧（tax+audit+advisory），我刚好被分到和recruiter一桌吃饭。吃饭的时候我尽量和同桌的pwc工作人员说话。他们聊我不懂得话题（比如美国电视剧office神马的，我只看gossip girl好吧 = =），我就把话题扯到我懂得方面上（比如中国阿神马的）。

　面试前的dinner social就是一个表现自己social skill的好时候。

　后来吃点心的时候大家rotate tables，我刚好被分到我和我第二天的面试官同一个桌子吃饭。漂亮的30+女生，又和她瞎聊了一20分钟左右才离开饭馆。

　 第2天在asu student service building career center 3rd floor和这个漂亮女生面试。基本问题都是go through the resume, behavioral question (需要面试的同学建议去wp carey ba1楼的career center拿一本”interview”的资料，里面有无数经典面试题目，这里就不一一列举了)。四大面试从来都不会考你任何会计知识，所以不用复习课本哦。。。面试的时候我其实一直在打嗝（之前喝了个可乐。。。后悔啊），居然通过了。。。收到了终面的通知。

　 终面发生在大概2周之后吧，面试前一天又被邀请到他们phoenix办公室吃饭。继续social一番。

　第2天开车到了公司终面（所谓的super day）从早上10点一直面试到下午2点。我和另外一个honor学院的女生竞争一个实习岗位。2个面试+1个info session（介绍公司benefit什么的）。全程有一个善良的tax associat大妈n带着我参观公司。

　 其实第一个面试和manager聊的时候表现得不错的。可惜第2个面试是和partner，我哪见过这个场面。。。很紧张。她的几个问题我都不知道怎么回答(你不是大三么，怎么现在就来申请了? 你怎么没有工作经验阿？)。。。

　总之发挥太差，感觉鸭梨很大。。。

　 1周后recruiter打电话说我没有被选上internship, 但是感觉还是挺有潜力的，希望我可以参加他们的externship。我只能说好吧。recruiter问我想参加phoenix local externship还是chicago national externship。当时年少无知啊选了phoenix（以为network比较多更容易拿offer），事实上去national externship可以见到全国各地的recruiter, 机会更多，我朋友就去了national externship表现出色当场拿到了实习offer。

　 2010年夏天5月份去了externship，表现不佳（没有争取做team活动的leader什么的）。结束后再也没有听到pwc的消息。

　 华丽的分割线

　 第二次面试：ernst & young, phoenix office, tax internship

　 结果：还是没有拿到internship, 不过认识到了拿到现在实习的一个关键人物manager s。

　 当时个人背景：一年工作经验（asu残疾人中心business tutor + school of engineering做会计）。gpa 4.0。

　在中国学生会做副主席。

　 过程：

　 每年asu 商学院都会在fall semester 举办一个叫meet the firms的career fair,专门面向会计专业的学生。2010年的夏天我第一次参加了这个会，刚好当时火警响了所有公司的人和学生都出了mu跑道旁边到草地上去了。我巧遇一个孤零零的ernst & young partner站在我旁边说：“do you want to learn about ernst & young?”而且他还是管international tax的。大喜之。。。和他侃了半天。

　回家里马写了个cover letter直接开头就是写这个partner的名字。

　 meet the firm结束后，我吸取去年的教训，把四大会计事务所的tax internship都在sundevil careerlink上面申请了一遍。悲剧的是pwc没有理我，反而我拿到了ernst & young的面试。可能是那个partner记住了我。

　 同样的这次的e&y pre-interview dinner social我又一次和面试官w聊天，这次的面试官居然也是做international tax的manager (要知道他们phoenix办公室里40个tax的人，只有3个做international tax)。兴奋之余和他聊了半天我很想做transfer pricing。第2天面试的时候还是猛聊 transfer pricing，结果后来被拒了。我考虑原因有二：1。

　我的国际学生身份。

　2。他们招聘的是federal tax internship,不是international tax intern，可能感觉我兴趣不fit吧。

　 可是这次我失败后并没有灰心丧气，因为我从w口中知道了一个人，s 在e&y phoenix office唯一一个做transfer pricing的人。

　我和w面试之后马上给s写了一个邮件，问他能不能出来小聊个15分钟做一个informational interview，结果w同意了。

　为了大家便于参考借鉴，邮件内容如下：

　 dear mr. xxxxx:

　 i am a senior accounting student from arizona state university. recently i had a chance to talk with xxxxxxx （那个partner,他的顶头上司） and xxxxxxxxxxx（我的面试官，他同事）, and they both recommended me to contact with you. i will be very appreciated if you have 15 minutes or more for an informational interview to discuss about the transfer pricing practice.

　 i have a goal to work as a tax cpa in the international tax services for e&y, and i really want to know how much it will take for me to achieve my goal. i want to learn what skill sets and qualifications i must have to be as success as you in the tp group, so i am hoping you can spend a few minutes with me to know more about your career path, your background and your experiences.

　 knowing that your schedule does not allow much flexibility, i can come to your office or anywhere else at your convenience. if you can meet anytime before 2pm on monday/wednesday or anytime on friday through sunday, please give me a call at (xxx)xxx-xxx or reach me at xxxx@asu.edu . i attached my resume if you are interested in learning a little bit more about me, and i wish you can give me some advice on how to improve my resume.

　 informational interview是一个很好的找工作的方法。但是最大的忌讳就是说你想通过他找工作。

　技巧是你要表现出你对他现在的工作很有兴趣，而你只想让他给你advice怎么样develop你自己，这样将来你可以进入他的area。通常如果你表现不好，他会给你指出改进的方法。如果你表现好，他可能就会给你推荐工作。

　 1周后我和s到phoenix e&y附近的starbuck喝咖啡，我准备了大概20+题目，具体如下：

　 1. how did this type of work interest you and how did you get started?

　 2. how did you get your job? what jobs and experiences have led you to your present position? can you suggest some ways a student could obtain this necessary experience?

　 3. what is a typical career path of the people end up in transfer pricing group?

　 4. what abilities or personal qualities do you believe contribute most to success in the field of trasfer pricing? how did you learn these skills?

　 5. how is the economy affecting this industry? are you optimistic about e&y’s future and your future with e&y?

　 6. what can you tell me about the employment

　 7. outlook in your occupational field? how much demand is there for people in this occupation? how rapidly is the field growing? can you estimate future job penings?

　 8. what can you tell me about the corporate culture?

　 9. what are the major frustrations of this job?

　 10. does e&y pay for employees to pursue graduate degrees?

　 11. what special advice do you have for a student seeking to qualify for this position?

　 12. how would you assess the experience i"ve had so far in terms of entering this field? i have bring a copy of my resume and you can take a quick look at it.

　 13. are there any written materials you suggest i read? which professional journals and organizations would help me learn more about this field?

　 14. what do you like and not like about working in this industry?

　 15. if your job progresses as you like, what would be the next step in your career?

　 16. why will a client choose e&y?

　 17. if you could do things all over again, would you choose the same path for yourself? why? what would you change?

　 18. what does the company do to contribute to its employees" professional developmen

　 19. do you know of other people whom i might talk to who have similar jobs?

　 聊天之后他觉得我很passion, resume也很impressive。我把简历发给他，s很热心地帮我修改了发回来给我。

　1周后我告诉他我被phoenix office给拒了，他说他可以把我的简历发给纽约的同事看看，同时也发给了中国大陆北京上海香港那边的熟人。

　不到一周纽约那边的同事就回说，他们会2011年1~2月份联系我，现在的recruiting还没有开始。

　之后我其实12月份~1月底都没有怎么和s联系。。（回国玩去了）。这里说声抱歉。

　 第三次面试：deloitte, phoenix office, international tax internship

　 结果：失败！

　 当时个人背景：一年半工作经验（asu残疾人中心business tutor + school of engineering做了一年多会计）。gpa 4.0。

　在中国学生会做副主席。参加过pwc externship和xtax competition。

　 过程：

　 deloitte出奇地在spring开学的时候在sundevil careerlnk招一个international tax的实习。刚好是我最感兴趣的领域。果断报名，拿到了campus interview。可惜我以为他们是national wide recruiting, 然后就一直跟他们说我想去芝加哥工作。后来才明白他们就招一个phoenix的位置。因为我太傻~ 被华丽丽地拒了。

　 第四次面试：ernst & young, new york headquarter, international tax – transfer pricing group internship

　 结果：终于拿到internship offer阿！

　 当时个人背景：一年半工作经验（asu残疾人中心business tutor + school of engineering做了一年多会计）。gpa 4.0。

　在中国学生会做副主席。参加过pwc externship和xtax competition。

　 1月份的某一天，纽约的recruiter邮件问我，他们有一个info session about transfer pricing internship,但是不报销来回机票（900多美金阿老天爷）， 我毅然说我去我去。后来s考虑了一下说，机票太贵了，结果让我不用去infor session,直接让s的同事a电话面试我。

　 我比较不害怕电话面试，因为什么简历阿资料啊问题答案都可以事先写好，读就是了。。。。

　面试里a问我writing skill怎么样，我说写得很好，老师在这个学期上课的时候还把我上个学期写得report展示给这个学期的同学看呢。面试后果断把eng302当年的作业都给她发了过去。

　结果1周后收到邮件，邀请到纽约时代广场终面 （机票酒店都报销哦~）。

　 接下来是我人生最crazy的一次面试了，基本30+小时没有睡觉。记得面试周四10am-2pm。

　我周三下午有个考试7：30结束。只好搭上唯一available的飞机，11：50离开凤凰城，我在飞机上睡不着，4个小时后到达纽约早上6：10am… 赛车7：10am到酒店结果taxi的刷卡机坏了。。折腾了20分钟终于找到地方get cash。

　到达希尔顿酒店赶紧化妆换西装。完全没有在酒店躺下来过。太兴奋9点就到了e&y楼下，意识到自己来早了一个小时，就跑到旁边的麦当劳里坐了1个小时准备面试题目答案。

　 去了e&y之后我一点也没有觉得困。super day guide是一个日本漂亮mm,带我去见了2轮面试的阿姨（都超级nice）, 中午带我去一个好高级的日本餐厅（没有40美元以下的菜。。。orz）。问题全部都是behavioral超级简单。由于我看火影之类的动画片。。。会少量日语单词，和mm聊得很开心。当天下午6pm飞回凤凰城。。。。赶紧打包行李为第2天中午飞去芝加哥过spring break做准备~~ 哈哈。

　 当然，面试后我不但给面试官和日本mm,recruiter都发了thank you note,我还记得给s发了封邮件感谢他介绍我这次机会。

　当然我也是希望他可以给纽约那边打个招呼，帮我美言两句。果然他问了下2个面试管，2个阿姨都说对我印象很好。spring break后的周一早上，我被recruiter电话吵醒。问了下我是不是f-1学生，老实回答是，以后需要e&y sponsor h-1b，她说嗯她知道了就只是确认下。然后就给了我offer。

　 两年下来我除了四大也面试过别的公司，投过简历的工作不计其数（可能有三位数了），这是第一次拿到offer。在美国经济萧条的情况下，f-1身份的本科生找校外实习确实很困难。我本人认识asu的商学院能找到实习的f-1学生只有1个cis大三，2个accounting 大四，2个accounting master。对于学ee, cs等等engineering的各位。。。我只能说：羡慕极度恨！ 不过听说asu mba的所有人100%都能找到工作，因为他们貌似有一个什么job placement program，和包分配差不多，有兴趣的同学可以去问下wp carey mba program。

　 总而言之：坚持就是胜利！

　 注释：

　 1．externship其实是美国四大会计给大三的学生提供的一个了解公司的机会。一般2~3天，个别公司5天。unpaid,基本上就是和公司的人互动，做workshop, volunteer, meet with clients, etc.是一个让学生了解公司，公司也了解学生的机会。很多人在参加externship结束后都因为表现出色获得internship的offer。
